The story of Binxy, my little attention digger
Binxy isn’t just my dog. She’s my supervisor.
We can play fetch, run zoomies around the house, and have a cuddle session that would melt hearts on Instagram… and five minutes later, she’s back to work… supervising me. Not because she’s bored. Not because she’s hungry. No, Binxy digs because I dared to focus on something that isn’t her.
If I’m lying down? She digs at the pillow like she’s trying to evict me from my own bed.
If I’m sitting on the couch? She claws at the cushions like there’s buried treasure under there.
If I’m doing my makeup? She scratches the bedframe as if to say, “Put down the mascara. I’m the only highlight you need.”
This isn’t attention-seeking. This is attention-enforcement.
“My dog doesn’t ask for attention - she commands it, with extreme prejudice.”
What I’ve Learned (Spoiler: She’s Training Me)
This isn’t about burning energy. Binxy just believes the world and especially me should revolve around her. And she’s not wrong. If I react in any way laugh, scold, or glance at her she knows she’s won.
“She doesn’t beg. She stages a full-scale protest until she wins.”
“Our plans don’t matter. Her agenda does.”
How I’m Learning to Handle It (Sort Of)
- I wait her out. If I give her attention mid-dig, she learns to do it more. I wait until she pauses, then reward her with love.
- I give “preemptive cuddles.” Before I sit down or start doing something else, I top up her affection tank. Sometimes it works. Sometimes she still files a paw-shaped complaint.
- I redirect… if she’ll allow it. A toy or chew can stall her for a few minutes, but let’s face it she prefers Mum On Demand.
- I experiment with different approaches. No matter what I try, she treats it like a game to see if she can get her way and she loves challenges.
For Pet Sitters: Beware the Furry Middle Manager
If you’re looking after a pet like Binxy, don’t assume digging means they’re bored. Some pets aren’t asking politely they’re running quality control.
“When a pet digs at the couch, they’re not misbehaving - they’re micromanaging.”
The Truth? I Secretly Love It
Binxy’s not destructive, just determined. She’s figured out how to make herself absolutely impossible to ignore, and honestly? I respect the hustle. Every scratch at the sofa, every paw on the pillow is her way of saying:
“You are my whole world. Act accordingly.”
And, well… she’s right.
“In Binxy’s house, attention isn’t optional it’s mandatory.”
